Materials Science Graduate Student Receives Awards at 44th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialist Conference

November 28, 2017

Boju Gai, a graduate student in Materials Science, received two awards (Best Poster Award and Best Student Paper Award) from the 44th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialist Conference (IEEE PVSC) held in Washington D.C. IEEE PVSC is the world’s top conference in solar energy science and technology.

Gai has been researching materials and fabrication strategies to improve the cost-effectiveness and application possibilities of GaAs solar cells. In his oral presentation for his Best Student Paper Award, he spoke about multilayer-grown nanostructured GaAs solar cells with uniform interlayer performance, which constitutes an important advance for making III-V solar cells practical in terrestrial photovoltaics.

In his presentation for the Best Poster Award, Gai explained a novel fabrication approach for inverted metamorphic multijunction solar cells in ultrahigh efficiency concentrated photovoltaics.
