USC students win big at the 2018 SPE-WRM Student Paper Contest

June 1, 2018

Each year, Petroleum Engineering students at all levels (BS, MS, and PhD) participate in the Annual Student Paper Contest, sponsored by the Society of Petroleum Engineers during the Western Regional Meeting (SPE-WRM). The top rank in each category wins a free trip to the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (SPE-ATCE) to compete at the International Student Paper Contest.

This year, USC students had a stellar performance in Garden Grove and took home the first place in both BS and PhD Divisions. Participants from USC were Daniel Linderman and Saran Kaba (BS Division), Yuanjun Li and Jodel Cornelio (MS Division), and Wei Ma and Atefeh Jahandideh (PhD Division). Daniel Linderman won the first rank in the BS Division, while Wei Ma and Atefeh Jahandideh secured the first and second rank, respectively, in the PhD Division. Atefeh and Wei are members of the recently established Center for Advanced Reservoir Characterization and Forecasting, which is sponsored by Energi Simulation.

Both Daniel Linderman and Wei Ma won free trips to the upcoming 2018 SPE-ATCE in Dallas, TX, to represent the Western North America Region and USC at the international competition.

Great job Trojans, and best of luck to Daniel and Wei in the international competition. Fight on!
